GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION PRIVACY NOTICE

Lincolnshire Veterinary Referrals is fully compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018.  We hold our clients’ personal data in their legitimate interests to provide pets with emergency, routine and preventive veterinary care.

 

THE USES WE MAKE OF PERSONAL DATA

  • Processing insurance claims
  • Communicating with external service providers, pathologists or laboratories essential to provide our patients with veterinary care
  • Communicating with other veterinary surgeons to send them medical history about a pet we have previously treated so that veterinary care can be maintained
  • Communicating details of our Health Care Plan to the members of the Plan
  • Informing clients when their pets’ vaccination boosters are due
  • Communicating with regulatory and government bodies e.g. the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs

 

This is not an exhaustive list.

Personal data will only be stored for as long as a client remains registered with Lincolnshire Veterinary Referrals.

If a client informs us that they do not wish to remain as a client of the practice, their data will be kept for one year in case it is needed by, for example, another veterinary surgeon or an insurance company processing a claim.  After that, it will be destroyed unless it is legally necessary for us to keep it. For example, the Inland Revenue requires financial data to be held for six years, after which it will be destroyed.

 

YOUR RIGHTS UNDER THE GENERAL DATA PROTECTION ACT

  • You have the right of access to personal data which we hold.  Any application must be in writing. We will respond within one month to any application for access to data.
  • You have the right to rectification of any personal data if it is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • You have the right to erase any personal data (the right to be forgotten).  You can request the deletion of any personal data if there is no compelling reason for it to be held.
  • You have the right to restrict the processing of particular pieces of data.
  • You have the right to data portability, to obtain and reuse your personal data
  • You have the right to object to processing.
  • You have the right to lodge a complaint concerning GDPR with a supervisory authority.

To be a client of Lincolnshire Veterinary Referrals, the business has to process your personal data in order to provide your pets with veterinary care. All clients must consent to this processing.

You may withhold your consent, or withdraw your consent at any time, but, if you do so, Lincolnshire Veterinary Referrals will not then be able to accept you, or allow you remain, as a client of the practice.
