Your visit

What to expect when you come to see us

Your Consultation
  • An in-depth conversation about your pet so we know as much as you can tell us about their general state of health and their current problem.
  • A complete ‘nose to tail’ physical examination
  • An in-depth service specific (e.g. neurological) assessment to find the area which is affected.
  • A discussion of the possible reasons for your pet’s illness and the steps which we can take to find and treat the problem. This will always include a financial discussion so you know the probable costs before we begin.
  • You should plan for this initial meeting lasting up to an hour and a half depending on the urgency and complexity of the illness.

The Investigation
  • Investigation of your pet’s problem usually takes place shortly after this consultation.
  • In most circumstances, you receive a diagnosis and a treatment plan for your pet on the same day.
  • Where images have been made of your pet we will usually sit down with you and talk you through our findings before your pet comes home to you.

Treatment and Hospitalisation
  • In some cases, your pet may need to be hospitalised to be treated.
  • If your pet require surgery, this would be carried out as soon as your pet is stablized and we have all equipments ready for the procedure. No further referrals is generally needed for most of our services.
  • We will aim to give you an update on how your pets are daily, after having assessed them in the hospital in the morning.

Discharge and Aftercare
  • You will have an in-depth conversation with our vets to explain the diagnosis and medications for your pets on discharge, including ongoing care that may be needed.
  • If required, especially for spinal patients, we will also organise our nurses to demonstrate physiotherapy shortly after discharge appointment to ensure you are fully prepared to look after your pet after they are home.
  • A copy of the clinical records and where applicable, referral report, will be sent directly to the referring vets after this discharge appointment.
